Even though the eighth graders at Mount Carmel have just started their journey here, they have already formed opinions about their surroundings, teachers, and day to day life at MCA. One eighth grader named Gracie Perez talked to me about her experience here so far, and why she chose Mount Carmel.

Q: What is your favorite part of MCA so far?

A: The teachers here at MCA are very supportive and helpful, and make me feel as if they really want me to succeed in my academics. I also think the Big Sister and Little Sister gatherings have helped me grow closer to my Big Sis, who has helped me a lot so far.

Q: Why did you choose MCA?

A:  I felt like I really needed to bring myself closer to God and learn in an environment where I felt like I could be supported by my friends and teachers, so I could not think of a better place to go than Mount Carmel.

Q: What do you think about all of the clubs here?

A: I am very surprised by the variety of clubs here as it has really helped me meet new people in different grades and classes that I would not have met otherwise.

Q: How do you think going to Mount Carmel has affected your spirituality?

A: I have definitely grown closer to God and learned that prayer doesn’t have to be just saying memorized prayers, but rather conversations between Him and me.

Q: What is a common misconception about MCA?

A: I was really nervous about going to Mount Carmel because I had heard that it can get confusing navigating the hallways, but it gets easier after the first couple weeks and I was able to memorize where my classes were.

Q: What is something you wished you would have known about Mount Carmel before attending?

A: I wish I would have been more informed about the block schedule mainly because I was really confused by it during my first weeks at school, and I ended up going to the wrong classes randomly.

Q: How do you feel about Eat Fit NOLA?

A: I think it is really a great way for students to be able to eat healthier everyday.

Q: If you could add one class at MCA what would it be?

A: I would say having a history class that talked about current issues in America.

Q: What were your thoughts on Spirit Day?

A: It was a very fun bonding experience for my grade. All the cheers and dance routines involved were amazing, and everyone worked super hard to make Spirit Day great!

Q: What is your favorite class?

A: My art class is great because I am able to create and learn new things everyday. I also really like how I learned all about famous artists and their lives.
